WhY call it “Nontoxic” masculinity?
Director of the American Institute for Boys & Men Richard Reeves has real beef with the term “toxic masculinity” because the opposite has not been well-defined… until now.
The word “nontoxic” makes me think about crayons. When you see “nontoxic” on a box of crayons, what does that mean? It means they’re safe, that they won’t harm your children.
Toxic masculinity harms women, children, and other men.
Nontoxic masculinity protects them from harm.

Nontoxic Masculinity: A Celebration of Good Men is not an instruction manual. I’m not in the business of teaching people how to act. My specialties are pattern-recognition, psychology, and story-telling, not bossing men around.

It is grounded in the work of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell and seeks to guide readers through an exploration of the enduring patterns of mankind that are embedded in our collective consciousness.
